May mixed media technique

Are you creating mixed media calendar pages with Roni?  Here's my rendition of May.  The focus this month is all about rolling papers.  I've never done this and I wasn't sure I'd like it.  But what the heck, let's give it a whirl.

Sizzix Arch Frame; TH tissue wrap; Ranger archival inks (Tea Rose, Sky Blue, Buttercup...all new by Studio 490); TH Flourish Stencil; DecoArt Paper Perfect; Penny Black Brush Tulips stamp (2835K); distress markers; watercolor paper; book page scraps; EK Success border punch; Bazzill card stock

The end is near!

Ack!  Just a few more sets of cards until we've run through the deck of cards for the Altered Playing Card challenge.  But Claudine has assured the group that the fun isn't over yet...she has more in store!

Inkadinkado - girl grad stamp; unknown word stamp; Jet Black and Cobalt Archival Inks; paper tape from Cavallini & Co.; white card stock scraps; colored pencils; Multi-Medium (matte)
Tim Holtz washi tapes*; Sizzix dies; Silver Fox Stamp (text); JustRite stamp (word); Cracked Pistachio distress ink, marker and paint; Punchabunch punch; Glossy Accents; Multi-Medium (matte)

* my tape roll is a mess.  The layers have fused to themselves and couldn't get them to separate without tearing into thin, irregular strips.  My others aren't like this but this package had 2 of the 4 rolls that are an absolute mess.

Masks

Only a few more weeks in Claudine's altered playing card challenge.  This week's focus?  Masks.

playing card covered with gesso, Studio 490 LCS077 Worried About Art, Tim Holtz CS124 Warehouse District, Old Paper Distress Paint, Adirondack inks (Mushroom, Espresso), archival inks (Potting Soil, Jet Black), Sizziz OTE die (Honeycomb), TH masking sheet, button, thread, Glossy Accents, white card stock scrap
playing card covered with gesso, Tim Holtz CS124 Warehouse District, Weathered Wood Distress Paint, Adirondack inks (Stonewashed, Denim), archival inks (Cobalt, Jet Black), Hero Arts alpha LL762 Printer's Lowercase, Sizzix dies (moon, scrollwork), Black Superfine Detail Embossing Powder, white card stock scrap, yellow card stock scrap, TH masking sheet, Glossy Accents

I let my cards air dry for a long time...the ink still wasn't dry.  So I hit it with the Heat It tool....still wasn't drying.  Let it air dry some more.  Thought it was dry but it wasn't; hence, the smear above the plane.  C'est la vie.

This is a close-up shot so you can see that dimension you get when you use this product.

Don't forget to enter your piece because you might just be the lucky winner of a $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie or be selected by the Curiosity Crew to receive a prize package from Tim and Mario.

There are just 12 more challenges in the book...I wonder which one will be next?

Birthday thank you notes

I saw a similar card on Pinterest and thought it was so clever!  While I don't know of any one turning 60 I just did myself and thought it would be perfect for my thank you notes.

Alphabet stencil, unknown Scrabble tile stamps, Hero Arts alpha (for rest of message), brown card stock scraps

Jet Black Archival Ink

15 works for me...as long as I would be able to know what I do now!  lol

Here's an old family photo I'd not seen before my birthday...courtesy of my sister and one of her talented daughters.  My mom had reddish-brown hair and my dad had black hair; mine was strawberry blonde.  Get a look at Pebbles' face.  My niece took an photo of me and inserted it where Pebbles' face should be.  Clever!  And those dinosaurs...just wait until my sis turns 60!!!

More hearts

Kim (eclecticPaperie) has issued the latest Make Art challenge (Studio 490/Wendy Vecchi)...use hearts in your work.  A randomnly chosen winner will be given a $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie.  With all the new products that were recently released at CHA who wouldn't want this????

I chose to finish the back of a specialty stamping paper page from one of Wendy's previous classes.  The colors really pop and the images appear to be 3-D when you see this in person.

Studio 490 stamp sets: Life & Art LCS010, Love to Make Art LCS029, Art For You LCS093, Coneflower (S-I S-I)

Studio 490 stencils:  old ledger, all occasion sentiments, classic words, honeycomb, checkmate

Sizzix: alphanumeric thinlits dies

Ranger:  Black Fude Ball pen, distress inks, distress stains, archival ink, distress paints, specialty stamping paper

Studio 490 gold metallic embossing paste and Clearly For Art (bee)

Miscellaneous: black card stock scraps, silk ribbon, old book page

Finished page is approximately 4.25" x 6.5"

I've been encouraged to enter this piece into the 'Unruly Paper Arts' monthly quest for reader art.  This month's prompt is 'heartfelt'.  One winner is randomly chosen by a computerized program.  This month the prize is a mystery package full of crafting goods compliments of Unruly Paper Arts.

April mixed media calendar page

Check out Roni's blog for this year's Mixed Media Techniques calendar pages!  Lots of fun and plenty of new techniques to try.

Sizzix: Arch Frame die

Ranger:  Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints (Dab of Yellow, Classic Teal, Landscape Green, Purple Palette)

Tim Holtz stencils: Dot Fade, Rays

Hero Arts:  Glade Fern C3836

Black StazOn ink

Martha Stewart floral punch

Miscellaneous:  paper scraps, jewels, green rickrack, chipboard, white acrylic paint

Let's play with Elmer's Glue

That's what Claudine chose for this week's Altered Playing Cards.

Gesso, playing cards, all stamps by Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers (no longer in business), Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints (Modern Red, Altered Orange, Yellow Pastel), Sakura pens (white gelly roll, black micron, red glaze), distress markers, filmstrip ribbon, Sizzix (Typeset and Brick wall decorative strip dies), washi tape, embroidery brocade, watercolor paper, Jet Black Archival Ink, Glossy Accents, book page scrap, Harlequin stencil

I didn't have to draw around the brick wall (card on right)...the acrylic paint over the glued surface dried like that.  Isn't that neat?

Sadly, Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers rubber stamp company is no longer in business.  They always had images that pushed the limits...for some people.

Happy birthday to me!

When all my family members have had milestone birthdays I made them scrapbooks of their lives ...but never did one for myself.  As this is a  milestone birthday (I qualify for the insurance-covered shingles vaccine) I thought it was high time to start one for myself.  Here's the first page I created...hope to have many, many more in the near future.

Bazzill card stock; Sizzix dies (Typeset, Retro Packages, Holiday Words:Script, Birthday Blueprint); Simple Sayings CMS155; archival inks (Jet Black, Deep Purple); yellow vellum scrap

Let it snow!

The snow was falling heavily the day I created this tag.  While we didn't get the right snow to make a snowman, I did create a papery one with plenty of texture.

#8 tag; Stampers Anonymous CMS098 Grunge Flakes; core'dinations whitewash collection; distress stains (Tumbled Glass, Picket Fence, Weathered Wood); distress inks Tumbled Glass, Tea Dye); archival inks (Jet Black, Tree Branch, Monarch Orange); Rock Candy Distress Glitter; Texture Paste; Sticky Embossing Powder; Sizzix dies (Winter Wonder, Typeset, Alphanumeric); chipboard; foam tape; clear snowflake; jump ring; crinkle ribbon
Here's a close-up...the technique is on the snowflakes.  It's kind of difficult to see in the photo above.

This tag has been entered into the CCC3 #21 Challenge...see page 55 of Tim's latest book for details on how to create this look for yourself.  Don't forget that you have two chances of being a winner...one is chosen by the Curiosity Crew and gets an awesome package of Tim's products while the other is chosen randomly and gets a $50 gift certificate to The Inspiration Emporium.  How can you go wrong?  Happy creating!
