Feelin' blue

Over on the EverythingWendyVecchi Yahoo group we've switched the challenge schedule to monthly for the summer.  Everyone is busy with travel plans, summer activities, etc.

The June theme is to use the color blue, some metal, and of course, at least one Studio 490 stamp on your art.  I've used 6 stamps, plenty of Ranger coloring mediums and some Ten Seconds Studio metal, plus faux metal (sheet metal tape) on the label.

Reworded:  I stamped the phone on the front side of the periwinkle metal sheet and then took a roller ball tool over the lines I wanted to indent.  I then turned the phone over and put pressure on the spots between those lines so the opposite parts would be poofy*.  A bit of thread wound around a paint brush is the telephone cord.

The bottle was stamped in Manganese Blue Archival Ink on recycled plastic from a Sizzix die. I added some silver punched circles for the pills then pounced the white distress paint over the bottle and silver distress paint over the cap.  The number was stamped on the front of the bottle using Jet Black Archival Ink.

The Sizzix arrow was cut from grungeboard covered with Sticky Back canvas and watercolored with blue distress ink.

The tag was colored with lots of distress inks and stains; heat set; covered with clear crackle paint; then brown and black distress inks were smushed into the cracks.  Black Enamel Accents were painted along the edge of the tag.

I used stamps from Label It Art, Art Inspiration, Call It Art and She Spoke of Art.

* Betcha didn't know a phone could be poofy, didja?  lol

Chunky medium*

I used to love creating ATCs but after 7 3" binders were filled with art from around the world, I decided to cool my heels for a bit.  And then along comes the idea of making a chunky ATC.  A what?  It's a 2"x4" that really isn't 2"x4" at all.  It actually measures 1.5"x3.5" and if you cut a 2.5" length you have a chunky ATC.  I don't know who thought this up but it's lots of fun...4 sides and the top to decorate.  Guess you could include the bottom as another surface but since it's usually hidden from view I just use that space for my name and other pertinent info.

This month over on the EWV Yahoo group I am hosting a swap for this newer medium.  They needed to be received by the end of the month but I was waiting to get my hands on Wendy Vecchi's new brick stencil so I could create mine.  I was super lucky and won it on Wendy's blog last week so today I had to get my act together and get busy.

Without further ado, here is the one I will be mailing Deb.  The young lady in the window (from Tim's 'Lost & Found' paper stash) reminds me of Deb.

Studio 490 stamp sets:  Ticket To Art (leaf stem), Seriously Art (eyes), The Essence Of Art (side view, sentiments), Art Of Inspiration (woodgrain); brick stencil, Outdoor Art Art Parts (fence cut into sections), Scallop Trim (cut into sections)

Blossom Bucket:  door, window

Ranger:  Lake Mist, Sandal, Pebble paint dabbers (grout); Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint, Black Soot distress inks; Olive, Jet Black archival inks; Vintage Photo distress marker (used on door and window frame); Sticky Back Canvas; Picket Fence distress stain; clear embossing ink and powder; Antique Linen distress stickles (shingles); Black Enamel Accents; Matte Multi Medium

Tim Holtz/Sizzix:  mini butterfly die; Damask embossing folder

Ten Seconds Studio: periwinkle metal sheet (butterfly)

Misc.:  DecoArt Country Red Texture Magic (bricks), flower, shrink plastic (eyes, leaf stem), colored pencils (leaf stem), clear packaging (window on door, floor plans on side view), black cardstock, house number

This was the first time I had played with the Blossom Bucket pieces and it won't be the last!  They take color from Tim's distress markers so well...no need to leave them the original color.

It was hard to hold the stencil on the wood block so some of the brick paste got under the stencil - I'd make a poor bricklayer if this was my only opportunity to share it with the world.  Like using any other stencil, you need to apply it carefully.  The red really stands out if there's an 'oops'.  Heavy sigh.

*chunky medium sounds like a contradiction in terms, doesn't it?  oh well.

3x3 chipboard swap

Finally got my idea for the covers and inside base pages of a 3x3 chipboard swap I hosted last month on the EWV Yahoo group.  The covers are actually store bought coasters (from the $1 bin at Michaels) and are super sturdy.  I won't go into details on how I made everything because there's a lot I did that doesn't matter now that it's been covered up numerous times because it didn't work for whatever reason.

Thank you to the artists whose work I got to keep...Lori, Wanda and Tange .

Studio 490 stamps:  Be Inspired...Make Art (plaid background, be inspired), Art Parts (flourishes), Art-fully Said (alphabet), All About Art (polka dot background, Let Your Art Have Wings (stitched background), Just Word Art (create art), Artfully Noted (hand print, important stuff inside, page), Nature's Art (gingham background, (this does not include what the artists used on their pieces)

Ranger:  pigment ink (Espresso, snow Cap, Butterscotch, Terra Cotta; distress stain (Peeled Paint); distress ink (Gathered Twigs; archival ink (Coffee, Olive, Sepia, Jet Black, Aquamarine, Saffron, Monarch Orange); Crackle Accents

Tim Holtz/Sizzix:  Damask embossing folder

Sizzix:  number dies

Martha Stewart:  border punch, butterfly punch

7 Gypsies: pocket

Ten Seconds Studio: periwinkle metal sheet

Heavy on the metal

Guess what...I took a longer break so I could also participate in the metal challenge over at Simon Says Stamp & Show.  This little sweetie would be 100 in August if she was still here but sadly my grandmother passed away 6 years ago.
Tim/Sizzix: Vintage Cabinet Card, Mini Vintage Cabinet Card, Mini Butterfly, Mini Leaf, Small Easel dies; Damask embossing folder

Provocraft: Divine Swirl, Friends Forever & Swiss Dots embossing folders

Studio 490: rose (Dimensional Rose Art)

Ranger:  Latte Alcohol Ink

Ten Seconds Studio:  Rock Star Black, Periwinkle, Appletini, Barn Red metal sheets

Find your style

Finding your style.  Hmmm...wouldn't say mine is metal mania, more dressy distress.  lol  But the theme on the Simon Says Stamp & Show blog this week is metal.  I just got some Ten Seconds Studio metal sheets so this was the perfect time to play with them.

I found the purse template on-line (a long time ago) but I can no longer access the address to share it with you.  The art name was d0npen.  She had made it in the A2 size as well as an ATC version.  The shoe pattern was featured in Stampington magazine, maybe F/M of 2009.  I had no instructions so I made it work for me.  The Hat Box template was shown by Janine Tinklenberg (a long, long time ago).  And a girl just has to have a spring bouquet!  I saw this idea at an antiques & craft mall.  That's a salt shaker from room service.  Shh...my dh brought it home from a business trip.

Ingredients:  miscellaneous buttons, paper crimper, Sizzix texture plates (leather, fabric), Sizzix die for the flower, Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die, Martha Stewart punches (vine, hydrangea, fern, scalloped border), Ten Seconds Studio metal (Poison Ivy, Barn Red and BRRBlue), and Provocraft embossing folders (Divine Swirl and Herringbone).  The sentiment is  from Wendy's Fashion Style & Art and the alpha snap is by All My Memories. Of course, my projects wouldn't be complete without some distress ink (Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Black Soot).

Looks like I'm ready for spring with my new fashion accessories!

A night on the town

Normally I don't do fancy and I don't do glitz but this piece just kind of happened anyway.  Over on Simon Says Stamp and Show this week's theme was all about metal.  I managed to use some form of metal in 7(*) of my components.

The background is Duck Faux Metal Easy Liner (*) that was run through the Allegro embossing folder then wrapped around a 5"x7" piece of chipboard.  It already has an adhesive on the back.

The next layer is grungeboard, with a sheet of text adhered, painted over with the Pearl Paint Dabber, Wendy's background leafy vine stamped in archival olive, then edged with the Silver Paint Dabber(*).

Ten Seconds Studio Barn Red Metal sheet (*) was cut to size and run through SU's Manhattan Floral embossing folder.  Tim's handy dandy palm sander took the ink off the raised portion of the image very easily.

I gathered some lace and adhered it to the back of the roses.  I strung my own pearls and created a rather stylish dinner ring from a bead and silver ring(*).   I cut apart a teabag envelope from Harrods and glued it behind the jewelry box key(*).

Wendy's Cass Opera House was stamped onto the back of a soda can(*).  It's hard to see in the photo but there are 2 strands of silver beads(*) shooting up behind the opera ticket.  The grungeboard layer was elevated using a scrap piece of chipboard.
